Reunion at the 1000 Journals Movie Premiere

Had an exciting day yesterday at the premiere of the 1000 Journals movie, at the AFI Film Festival in Hollywood.  Got to spend time with Teri, Karle, and Chris, and also see the premiere of this film.  Was fun to have a 'reunion' of some of the Greece Girls.  The movie was great, and we got to meet Someguy (the person who started the whole 1000 Journals project), Andrea Kreuzhage the producer/director, plus several others who were involved in the book and the movie.   Juliana Coles was also in this movie (but only a short scene near the end) and I spotted at least one of her journal pages in there too.  We got lots of postcards, and autographs, and stuff to prove we were really there.  Teri and Chris checked out the red carpet at the front of the theatre, too.  A great day, and lots of fun to be together again.  Photo1adj_2 Photo2_2 Photo3

Athens Graffiti

Mykonos_090912_070 There are just SO many things about the trip that I remember, and so many levels on which I experienced  things.  One of the things that made the trip so special was being with others who noticed so much in the surroundings and shared them with the rest of us.

I am quite certain I never would have really observed the graffiti in Athens without others pointing it out to me.  Several interesting examples here, all from the Plaka area near the Acropolis in Athens1580451364_1da3b1f183.

Stage 7 - Bringing Back the Boon

Bringing back the gratitudes.

I am greatful for the freedom to have gone, for the choices of the last 2 days in Oia, for the shared sunset at the point of Santorini and the applause, for the wonderful color of the town after the sun had set, for the good times and new sisters I met on the trip, for Juliana's wisdom and vulnerability and courage and determination.  I am grateful my sister Karle came and wrote and sketched.  I am grateful Teri came and shared, and helped me learn what a wonderful son I have.  I am grateful for the little discoveries my duaghter Courtney made on previous trips.  I am grateful for Jim first bringing me to Greece 34 years ago, and the memories of the Italian-Greek conversation on the local bus, and to be able to climb up into the Parthenon in the days before they roped it off.  I am grateful for the sunset at Sounion and for George telling us myths on the bus ride back in the evening.  I am grateful for the message of the Oracle, and the possibility of return.

Homeward and Onward from Santorini

I'm back now and have been waiting to hear from everyone that they got home okay.  When I left on Saturday both Juliana and Suzanne were still in Santorini.   Juliana should be home by now.  Last I heard from Suzanne she had to stay at least one extra night in Santorini before proceeding to Crete due to high seas cancelling all ferries. (sounds tough, LOL).

Suzanne continues excavations in Santorini

Discovers ancient carvings ( from this very morning) that she stamps into her journal. Suzanne has yet to publish in the National Archaeological Journal so "No photos! No pictures! No camera!".

The 3 Goddesses of Santorini

We have discovered the lost fresco The 3 Goddesses of Creative Expression quite by accident in the lava rocks on the rim of Santorini's volcanic caldera.

Distant travellers never know what they will discover beneath the surface or in the shadows.

Juliana, Suzanne and Lou Ann traveled on to Santorini the next morning by ferry. We had a nice ride with calm seas so we must have somehow pleased Poseidon during our visit there the night before.

The inspiration for Team Elaine

The approach to the Oracle

roosters crowing and look out at an incredible view toward the ancient
pilgrim port of Itea I am ready to visit the Oracle. I have my
question ready in my heart.

The ferry and the bus was the labyrinth and I made a quick sketch on
the bouncing ferry and wrote my midjourney feelings later on the bus.
I felt very scattered and unsettled on the entire uncomfortable
journey from Mykonos to Delphi.
